Installation of approximately 60 miles of fiber for gig speed project. Project lasted approximately 11 months and was valued near $1.4M.

SCOPE:

  • Install fiber-optic network to homes along a nearly 60-mile path throughout Kansas City neighborhoods.
  • Construction activities included:
    • Directional drilling
    • Open trenching
    • Vibratory plowing
    • Excavation and backfill
    • Placement of conduit
    • Pulling of fiber through conduit
    • Placement of handholes and vaults
    • Backfill and finish of work area

BENEFIT:

This client’s gig speed fiber to the home initiative started in Kansas City and grew to include other major cities such as Nashville, Atlanta, Raleigh and Durham. In Kansas City as well as the other cities, the new gig speed Internet access became a huge benefit to the communities by helping to launch numerous tech-based businesses. In Kansas City, many companies were created specifically due to the availability of high-speed broadband and the ability to support their high volume data needs. This effort helped make online learning a standard in the Kansas City area and has also had a huge impact on bringing high tech to local medical establishments.
